I know little of Finland other than the Lake District. Although I was wishing to visit Finland in hopes of dicovering more about the country, my trip through this region was a perfect first contact with Finnish culture. I was able to experience important Finnish traditions like the Finnish sauna, bathing in a frozen lake, learning about the different architectural styles present in the country and tasting Finnish cuisine.
I got to know the Lake District but Finland has many more places to visit. Some of the these places are Helsinki, the country’s capital, and the incredible Finnish Lapland. Throughout the country you will find many mountains, forests, waterfalls and fjords. It is a highly recommended country, especially for nature lovers. It is an attractive destination both in summer, when the days are endless, and in winter. I recommend visiting Rovaniemi during this time of the year.

PLACES TO VISIT IN FINLAND
Tips for every destination
Finland is not one of the most popular destinations in Europe. However, there are many interesting places to visit in Finland.
One of them is Helsinki, the capital of the country. You can also visit the city of Turku. It has a nice mix of medieval and modern architecture.
Lapland is one of the best places to visit in Finland. It is located in the northernmost area of Finland, where you can see incredible snowy landscapes. If you are lucky, you will be able to observe the magical Northern Lights. The best time to see them is from September to April. Another very popular destination in this region is Rovaniemi, especially during Christmas.
Lastly, Lake District is a perfect place to visit if you want to enjoy outdoor activities in a very peaceful environment. There are forests, lakes and cabins. It is an ideal destination during the summer, when you can see the incredible midnight sun.
Other places worth visiting in Finland are Porvoo, Savonlinna, Suomenlinna or Tampere.
HELSINKI
Helsinki, Finland’s capital, is a coastal city full of art, culture and architecture. Some of the best places to visit in Helsinki are Senate Square, Helsinki Cathedral, Temppeliaukio Church, Vanha Kauppahalli, Sibelius Park, Market Square, Uspenski Cathedral, Esplanadi and Rautatientori Station.
FINLAND'S LAKE REGION
Imagine standing in front of a large blue lake with a wooden cabin next to it surrounded by dense forest and green meadows. Now imagine walking along beautiful trails, bathing in the lake, enjoying a sauna session, having a barbecue in the middle of nature… This is what awaits you in the Lake District if you visit during the summer.
There are several places to visit in this region of Finland. You can visit places like Jyväskylä, the old Petäjävesi Church and the Gösta Serlachius Museum.
