To make sure you have time to see the main places to visit in San Sebastian<\/a>, I\u2019ve put together this complete list of highlights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re traveling in winter, when daylight hours are shorter, or if you\u2019d prefer a slower-paced visit, you can skip a few stops, such as Mount Ul\u00eda or the Gros neighborhood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Paseo de la Concha<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s no better way to start your one-day San Sebastian itinerary than with a stroll along the beautiful Paseo de la Concha. It\u2019s one of the most famous promenades in Spain, and it won\u2019t take long to see why.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This waterfront walkway, which runs along part of the city center and the iconic La Concha Beach, is the perfect place to soak in the scenery and watch the waves of the Cantabrian Sea roll into the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As you walk, you\u2019ll be accompanied by one of San Sebastian\u2019s most iconic symbols: its white railing. Elegant lampposts and stately buildings add to the charm, offering a glimpse of the city\u2019s aristocratic character from the late 19th century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You\u2019ll also enjoy the sea breeze and views of Santa Clara Island, which you can visit by hopping on this boat tour<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once you\u2019ve walked along the entire Paseo de la Concha, you\u2019ll reach the Miramar Palace, an elegant English-style building constructed in the late 19th century. The palace was at its best when it served as the summer residence of the Spanish royal family during the reign of Mar\u00eda Cristina, wife of Alfonso XII.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The palace enjoys a prime location, situated between La Concha Beach and Ondarreta Beach, a perfect spot to take in incredible views and a truly unique setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although the interior of the palace is currently closed to the public, it\u2019s well worth visiting just to admire its exterior, fa\u00e7ade, and surroundings. Its gardens offer a peaceful retreat where you can relax for a while and enjoy the view of the sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our next stop is Mount Igueldo, which you\u2019ll reach after visiting the Miramar Palace and walking along the promenade by Ondarreta Beach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the top, you\u2019ll find one of the best panoramic views of the city. The easiest ways to get up are on foot or by the funicular, a charming wooden train that opened over 100 years ago and still keeps its original charm. Another great option is to go up by funicular and come down on foot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The funicular usually opens at 11:00 a.m., although sometimes it starts at 10:30 a.m. You can check all the information on prices and schedules on the official Monte Igueldo website<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once at the top, the viewpoint is the main attraction, but not the only one. Visiting the small amusement park there is also a fun plan, especially if you\u2019re traveling with kids.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After your visit to Mount Igueldo, you can continue walking to the end of the promenade to reach another key spot in the city: Peine del Viento, a famous sculpture by Eduardo Chillida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To return to the center of San Sebastian, you can either retrace your steps along the seaside promenade or take a city bus, which will get you back in just a few minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once back in the city center, it\u2019s time to explore San Sebastian\u2019s historic quarter, also known as Parte Vieja. This is the city\u2019s most historic and lively neighborhood, located at the foot of Mount Urgull.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Old Town, you\u2019ll find a unique maze of streets full of historic buildings, charming squares, and, of course, plenty of pintxo bars where you\u2019ll want to stop at one after another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the most iconic spots in the center is the Plaza de la Constituci\u00f3n, easily recognizable by the many balconies of the surrounding houses and apartments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not far from the square, you\u2019ll come across the Basilica of Santa Mar\u00eda del Coro, a grand Baroque church known for having one of the most beautiful facades in the city. From here, take a short walk to the Church of San Vicente, the oldest religious building in San Sebastian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Keep strolling until you reach the San Telmo Museum, housed in a 16th-century Dominican convent. It\u2019s the perfect place to learn about Basque history and culture through its art collection and permanent exhibitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Located at the eastern end of the bay, the hill served for centuries as a strategic defense point. Today, it\u2019s a peaceful oasis in the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The recommended route starts at the San Telmo Museum. You\u2019ll walk along old paths lined with walls and cannons, offering a glimpse into San Sebastian\u2019s military past. Take your time and enjoy the walk, as there are several special viewpoints along the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the top, you\u2019ll find the Castillo de la Mota, a medieval fortress that once protected the city from enemy attacks. Above the fortress, at the highest point, stands the Sacred Heart statue, a 12-meter-tall figure. Another notable site is the English Cemetery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mount Urgull also has a bar where you can rest and grab a drink.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s time to head back down to the center of San Sebastian. This area features wide avenues, elegant buildings, and charming squares, perfect for a relaxed afternoon stroll.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Along the way, don\u2019t miss the Victoria Eugenia Theatre, home to the San Sebastian Film Festival, and the Mar\u00eda Cristina Hotel, both icons of the Belle \u00c9poque. Stop by Plaza de Gipuzkoa, which has a small park with a pond and a floral clock, and the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd, the city\u2019s largest church, with its impressive 75-meter-tall tower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After exploring several streets in the city center, cross the Urumea River to reach the Gros neighborhood via the Mar\u00eda Cristina Bridge, Santa Catalina Bridge, or Zurriola Bridge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This hill is the perfect spot to find peace, quiet, and enjoy a stunning view over the Cantabrian Sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Walk uphill from Gros along the coastal section of the Camino de Santiago. From the top, you\u2019ll get a great panorama of Zurriola Beach, the Kursaal, and the entire city skyline; an ideal place to say goodbye to San Sebastian!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
