Best areas to stay in Biarritz
The first step in organizing your visit and getting ready to explore the must-see places in Biarritz is to book your hotel. Here are some hotel recommendations to suit different budgets.
As for the areas, we can highlight:
- Port Vieux, one of the most charming parts of the town.
- Les Halles, the whole area surrounding the market.
- Grande Plage, the main beach of Biarritz.
- Côte des Basques, the best place to surf.
If you’re visiting Biarritz for sightseeing, consider staying in Port Vieux, Les Halles, or Grande Plage. These areas keep you close to the main attractions. If you are mainly going to surf, Côte des Basques is an excellent choice. Even if you don’t stay there, make sure to visit as it has an incredible vibe and some of the best restaurants in Biarritz are located there.
The best hotels in Biarritz
Below, I recommend several hotels (you’ll also find a map below with all of them marked to help you easily locate each one):
1. Hôtel de la Plage, my favorite hotel in Biarritz

I’ve stayed at this hotel several times, although it’s completely different from what it used to be. After a recent renovation, the facilities are much improved. What hasn’t changed, however, is its fantastic location, which I can vouch for firsthand.
This charming 4-star hotel is situated next to Plage du Port-Vieux, in a quiet area perfect for strolling and exploring the city on foot. Its location provides stunning views of the beach and the sea.
The hotel offers a great selection of double rooms, some with balconies and sea views—waking up here must feel like a dream. Additionally, the hotel features a lovely terrace and serves breakfast to start your day right.
2. Hotel le Saphir, in Port Vieux

This Biarritz accommodation is also located in the Plage du Port-Vieux area, although a little less close to the coast. It is a 2-star hotel located on Gaston Larre Street, very close to numerous bars and restaurants.
Guests can choose to stay in a single, double, or triple room, depending on the number of people traveling. Some of the rooms have a balcony. In any case, the hotel has a pleasant indoor terrace. A continental breakfast is served every morning.
3. Hotel Edouard VII, stay in a 19th century residence

If you want to spend your nights in Biarritz in a hotel that combines the essence of the past and the comfort of the present, this hotel is a great choice.
The hotel is in a former 19th-century residence. This building was not only the home of the mayor of Biarritz but also the place where Napoleon III received medical attention during his visits to the region. As you can see, this is a hotel with a lot of history.
You can choose to stay in one of its double rooms (some have a terrace or balcony) or in a suite. All rooms are classically decorated, with wallpaper on the walls. Breakfast is served every morning.
4. La Maison du Lierre

This 3-star hotel is located in the center of Biarritz, very close to Les Halles and 300 meters from the beach. It has been recently renovated to offer its guests the best possible experience.
The place has several types of double rooms to sleep in. All have wooden floors and white walls. The decoration is simple but cozy. Some rooms have a terrace, and others have a balcony.
Guests can also enjoy access to the sauna, massage services, and other treatments for an additional charge. Breakfast is served as well.
5. Hôtel Le Café de Paris

We continue with another of the best hotels in Biarritz. This one is located in Place Bellevue, a pedestrian square with a privileged location. Not only do you have very good access to the city center, but you are also a few steps away from the Grande Plage, one of the best beaches in Biarritz.
It is a 4-star hotel with several types of double rooms and suites. The best thing is that all of them have sea views. In addition, some of the rooms have a private hammam, so rest and relaxation are guaranteed.
The hotel also has a bar and restaurant. in addition, a delicious breakfast is served every morning.
6. Hôtel Le Windsor, hotel overlooking the Grande Plage

This 4-star hotel is one of the most popular places to stay in Biarritz, and its great location is largely to blame. How would you like to stay just a few steps away from the wonderful Grande Plage de Biarritz? If you stay at this hotel, you’ll know what it’s like.
The hotel has double rooms and a family room (with a sofa bed). Some of them have great sea views—you won’t be able to tear yourself away from the window! There is also a bar-restaurant, and breakfast is served.
7. Mercure Président

I’ve also stayed at this hotel in Biarritz on one occasion, and I believe it’s another great base to explore the city. This 4-star hotel is located in Place Georges Clémenceau, right in the heart of Biarritz.
The hotel offers double rooms and a family room, making it ideal if you’re traveling with a group. All the rooms are spacious, and some even offer sea views. Breakfast is also available.
8. Hôtel Jules Verne, good option to stay in Biarritz

We’ll conclude this list with this 4-star hotel. While not as close to the city’s main tourist attractions, it remains a fantastic option to stay in Biarritz. To give you an idea, it’s a 12-minute walk from Les Halles and a 15-minute walk from Grande Plage. What makes it stand out is its large garden with a swimming pool.
The hotel offers double rooms and family suites, some of which include a kitchenette. There’s also a bar on-site, and breakfast is served every morning.
🛏️ If you’re looking for affordable hotels in Biarritz that are good quality, you can check out the Hôtel Parc Mazon-Biarritz or the Hôtel Oxo. They are more affordable hotels compared to those I’ve shown in this list, although keep in mind that Biarritz is an expensive destination, and it’s not easy to find cheap hotels that are both good quality and well-located.
