Despite its small size, there are different areas to stay in Gili Air. Each one has its own charm, as well as its advantages and disadvantages.
The main population center is located in the south of the island, between the port and the mosque. In this area, you will find most of the shops and many cafes and restaurants. It is a convenient area, as it is close to the pier where you will arrive, and the accommodations tend to be more affordable. However, do not choose one too close to the mosque if you are a light sleeper.
In my opinion, the best areas to stay in Gili Air are the east and west coasts of the island.
On the east coast, you can enjoy the best snorkeling on the island, as there are beautiful corals and many fish. With luck, you may also see a sea turtle. On the west coast, you can enjoy the best sunsets on the island. Both coasts have many restaurants and a lively atmosphere.
On the other hand, we have the north coast, which is even quieter. It has fewer services and is somewhat more isolated, but it can be a good option if that’s what you’re looking for.
We stayed on the west coast, and I really liked that part of the island. In any case, keep in mind that you can quickly reach any part of the island by bike.
