Being surrounded by mountains, it is easy to find a viewpoint from which to see the town from a bird’s eye view. It always has a good atmosphere, thanks to its many terraces and cultural activities.

This seaside town has a wonderful vibe, especially in the spring and summer. Furthermore, did you know that it also hosts a renowned canoe race? Every August, the first Saturday of the month is dedicated to the International Descent of the Sella.

Near Ribadesella you can do activities such as visiting the Tito Bustillo Cave, the Cuevona de Cuevas del Agua or the Fitu Viewpoint.

Another popular destination in Asturias is Llanes. This town, located by the sea, is known for its rugged coastline. It has numerous promenades where you can enjoy the sea breeze, the smell of the sea, and the peace that a place like this transmits. The Paseo de San Pedro is a must.

Walking through the historic center is also essential. Do not miss the tower of Llanes, the Basilica of Santa Maria, and the Palace of Castañega. As for the beaches, I recommend you visit Gulpiyuri Beach, Torimbia Beach, Poo Beach, and Ballota Beach.

Canagas de Onís

If you prefer to stay in a village further inland, I recommend Cangas de Onís, a town full of history, perfect for exploring the rest of the region. Cangas de Onís was the capital of the Kingdom of Asturias until 774. One of the most famous places is the Roman Bridge.

From Cangas de Onís, you can make excursions to Ribadesella, Cabrales or the Mirador de Pedro Udaondo. Although one of the main reasons why many people decide to stay in this town is its proximity to the Picos de Europa.

If you stay in Cangas de Onís, you will be very close to the Covadonga Lakes. You can visit this places on your own or by booking this day tour: Lakes of Covadonga guided day trip.

Whether you want to visit some of the must-see places on the coast of Asturias or inland, Cangas de Onis is one of the best options to stay in Asturias due to its charm and, above all, its strategic location.

Lastres, one of the most charming villages in Spain for many, is another beautiful coastal town, located just over 40 kilometers from Gijón and 60 km from Oviedo. In 2010 it was awarded the Prince of Asturias Award as Exemplary Village.

Its streets are steep and narrow, besides being cobbled. Be sure to take a stroll along the port or climb to the hermitage of San Roque to enjoy beautiful views.

It does not have as many hotels as the other towns mentioned in this article but it can be a good choice if you are looking for a special stay.

More tips to choose your accommodation in Asturias

Most likely you are looking for a place to stay in Asturias to see it all. First of all, you will have to take into account the time you are going to spend in the destination, since it may not be enough days to make a route through the whole region. In this case, you should focus on one area and get to know it well.

If, on the other hand, you want to visit all areas of the region, I would recommend spending a minimum of one week in Asturias. Although if you have about ten days, even better.

Another thing to consider when looking for accommodation in Asturias is whether you prefer to spend the whole stay in the same hotel or if it is more convenient for you to split your stay in at least a couple of hotels. To give you an idea, it takes about 2 hours to drive from one end of the coast to the other. You might want to spend a few nights on the east coast and a few nights on the west coast.

Then there are those who take advantage of their trip to the north to visit Asturias and Cantabria, a very popular combination. In that case, it is in your best interest to find a good place to stay to visit Asturias and Cantabria. I would recommend you to stay in the area of Llanes. Check out all the hotels in Llanes still available.
