Places to visit in July: 12 incredible destinations

Some of the best destinations to travel to in July are Switzerland, Iceland, New York, and the Dolomites (Italy). Here is all the information you need to know to choose one of these places.

1. Iceland, nature in its purest form

This island country in Northern Europe is full of wonderful places to visit. The landscapes you can enjoy in Iceland are so varied that you won’t know where to start. Make sure you spend enough days to visit the must-see places, like volcanoes, geysers, and glaciers.

You cannot miss the Blue Lagoon, the thermal waters that take on that colour due to the minerals in them and are distinguished by emitting smoke. Do not miss the Golden Circle: Thingvellir, from where this island rose geologically; Geysir, the original geyser; and Gullfoss, a place of magical waterfalls. Of course, spend a few days in its capital, Reykjavik, and its lively nightlife.

The good thing about visiting Iceland in July is that there are many hours of daylight, the temperature is more pleasant, and the weather conditions are less extreme. The landscapes are completely different than if you travel in the winter; therefore, it is a country to visit more than once.

🏥 Regardless of the place you decide to visit in July, don’t forget the importance of booking travel insurance if you don’t have medical coverage at your destination. I always use and recommend Heymondo, a company where I can offer you a 5% discount.

Those who are hesitating about where to travel in July should not fail to include Switzerland in their list of possible destinations. This wonderful European country has a unique charm and can boast a nature that is hard to beat. Thanks to the pleasant temperatures at this time of the year, it is an ideal place to go on a summer trip.

Switzerland is one of my favorite countries because it has places that seem to be taken out of a fairy tale. After our 7-day trip to Switzerland, thanks to which I fell in love with the country, I have had the pleasure of returning a couple of times and I can say that it is a country to travel to again and again.

In addition to having cities with a lot to offer, such as Bern, its capital, Lausanne, Lucerne, Zurich or Basel, it has a lot of villages and natural wonders that you can’t miss. I always recommend the Interlaken region, since from there you can visit beautiful places such as the Lauterbrunnen valley, the Grindelwald valley and Jungfraujoch.

Other places worth visiting in Switzerland are Gruyères, Zermatt, Lake Oeschinen, Blausee, Lugano, Mount Pilatus, the Aletsch Glacier, Chillon Castle…. The list is endless! If you choose this destination, don’t miss all my tips for traveling to Switzerland.

3. New York

Whether or not you’ve been to New York before, this city doesn’t need much introduction. New York is one of those places to travel to at least once in a lifetime, and July can be a great option to do so, especially if you want to avoid going in the winter and endure the cold temperatures. During this time of the year, you will be able to enjoy even more outdoor activities as temperatures are higher.

Get ready to walk along Fifth Avenue and its many stores; see New York from above; stroll through Central Park; or marvel at the magic of Times Square. These are just some of the plans that await you in the city. You will also have the opportunity to experience diversity thanks to neighborhoods like Chinatown, Little Italy, the Bronx, or Williamsburg.

Also, don’t forget to visit SOHO, the Public Library, the Museum of Natural Science, or Grand Central Terminal. These are just some of the places to visit in New York. If you need help looking for a hotel, don’t miss my guide on where to stay in New York.

Spain has many incredible places to visit. One of them is the Basque Country, an autonomous community located in the north of the country. It is an excellent choice because the region has many attractions and, in addition, temperatures are milder than in other areas of the country, not to mention its delicious pintxos!

As for cities, I recommend visiting San Sebastian and Bilbao. In Bilbao, you will find a very modern city with amazing places like the Guggenheim Museum. You can organize your visit thanks to my Bilbao for a day or Bilbao in 2 days itineraries.

On the other hand, in San Sebastian, one of the most beautiful cities in Spain, you will find an elegant and beautiful town. Check out the best things to do in San Sebastian.

Apart from these beautiful cities, the Basque Country has very beautiful nature. There are places that will surprise you, like San Juan de Gaztelugatxe or the Flysh of Zumaia. Do not miss the villages of Hondarribia or Getaria either.

The Black Forest is located in the southwest of Germany and borders Switzerland and France. Have you ever thought about traveling to this destination? If not, you should consider it because it has very beautiful places.

The region can be divided into three parts. In all of them, you will find some of the most beautiful villages in the Black Forest. Be sure to visit cities like Freudenstadt, in complete harmony with nature, and Baden-Baden, with one of the most beautiful casinos in the world.

The central region is ideal for hiking, as the Kinzing Valley is home to one of the most famous hiking trails in the world. In the heart of the Black Forest is the picturesque village of Triberg, traditionally dedicated to the manufacture of clocks and watches.

The lower part is also full of amazing landscapes and beautiful cities. This is also where much of the university’s activity is concentrated. Therefore, in cities like Freiburg, you will find a lot of cultural activity and nightlife. It is also home to Mount Feldberg, the highest peak in the region.

If what you are looking for is to get deep into nature and get to know the depths of wildlife, this is an ideal option.

Nairobi is the capital, and it is an incredible, cosmopolitan and modern city. However, the highlights of this country are its natural reserves and parks. It is there where you can enjoy one of the most unique experiences in the world: a safari aboard an all-terrain vehicle.

One of the most important parks is Maasai Mara, where, in addition to seeing many wild animals up close, you can learn about the lives and history of some of the many tribes that live there. Undoubtedly, Kenya is a unique destination that should be among your options if you are thinking about places to visit in July.

10. Indonesia, an incredible destination in Southeast Asia

Indonesia is a beautiful island country located between Southeast Asia and Oceania. In recent years, its popularity as a tourist destination has continued to grow. Unlike other countries in the area, where it is the rainy season, July is a good month to travel to Indonesia.

This nation is made up of thousands of islands. Although Bali is the most well-known, the country also has many other fascinating places, such as the Nusa Islands, Lombok, the Gili Islands, Raja Ampat, Borneo, the Island of Flores, Komodo, and Sumatra. Java, which is home to Jakarta, the country’s capital, as well as the temples of Borobudur and Prambanan, is also worth visiting.

Apart from enjoying the natural attractions of these islands, a trip to Indonesia will allow you to experience a different culture and gastronomy. My recommendation is that you combine Bali with other parts of the country. Do not miss all these places to visit in Bali.

11. Bosnia and Herzegovina

where to travel july europe

Maybe it’s a travel destination you hadn’t considered yet, but Bosnia and Herzegovina has a lot of attractions, and it’s one of the cheapest countries in Europe to travel to. I have to admit that every day it is higher and higher on my bucket list. You may be wondering: What is it about Bosnia and Herzegovina that makes it such a great destination?

This country, located in the heart of the Balkans, boasts a rich history and breathtaking scenery. The capital, Sarajevo, is a place you will love to explore, thanks, in large part, to its mix of cultures. Other very interesting localities are Mostar, Jajce, Pocitelj, Trebinje, Banja Luka, and Travnik.

As for nature, do not miss places like Kravice Waterfalls, Una National Park, and Sutjeska National Park. You also have to visit Blagaj, a place where the magic of nature and the hand of man have created a unique landscape.

12. Albania

Best places to visit in July

Albania is another country that has gained much popularity in recent years. It has positioned itself as a cheap European destination for paradisiacal beaches, although, as far as I have been able to see, Albania offers much more than beaches. Moreover, July is a great time to explore this hidden treasure in the Balkans, as the weather is warm and sunny, ideal for enjoying its coastline and mountain scenery.

If what interests you most is its coastline, make a note on your list of places like Vlorë, Saranda, Himarë, or Ksamil. This last destination, Ksamil, is one of the most popular beach destinations in the country, and its turquoise waters are irresistible. Although, as I said, Albania is more than its coast. Also visit Butrinto National Park, Theth, Berat, Krujë, and Tirana.
